Happiness: be serenely happy 'Happiness is an inner state of wellbeing. A state of wellbeing enables you to profit from your highest: thoughts, wisdom, intelligence, common sense, emotions, health, and spiritual values in your life.' Lionel Ketchian.
Happiness is about your attitude to life. Happy people are characterized by the belief that they are able to control their situation, whereas unhappy people tend to believe that they are a toy of fate. Having an attitude of gratitude for all the good things in your life can help you appreciate everything that is good in your life. Try to take responsibility for your own wellbeing. This means being aware of your thoughts, feelings and actions.
Be here now. We are either thinking about past, present or future but life is always happening now. So if you’re thinking about the past, think about the good times. If you’re looking ahead, envision a happy future. If you’re in the present, think positively about it and enjoy it to the full! Remember, your feelings are determined by your thoughts. 9 keys to happiness:
Meditate daily. This will reduce stress which will in turn increase your level of happiness.
Be grateful. Think about the five people or things you are most grateful for. Think how much happiness they bring to you.
Allow others to be who they want to be. Forgo judging them. You can seldom change people, so change your thoughts about them instead. Don’t get angry with others, this will only take away your happiness.
Your body is a temple: exercise regularly, eat healthily, get enough sleep, drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine. Research has shown that healthy people are happier. If you never exercise, start doing some – even if it’s just walking down the road for five minutes it will help. Exercise releases endorphins which make you feel good!
Happiness means different things to different people. For some of us, it can be derived from having our material needs met. Knowing that we will receive enough money for our efforts and be able to meet our immediate needs can create a sense of wellbeing and security. For others amongst us, spiritual reflection is the ultimate bliss, perhaps through meditation or contemplating spiritual passages. Happiness can mean a sense of harmony between body and spirit. |
